Morgan meets Deonte

Morgan met Deonte yesterday.... Deonte is a young man I met a few years back, and comes and hangs out from time to time with us. Well... yesterday Katie was riding Garrett and I told Deonte to get on S'morgie. Morgan was awesome and they did some w/t/c and a few 18" jumps. I think Deonte might be riding Morgan alot more for me, which is great, and Katie is going to teach him to ride english (deonte's a western rider mainly)

Riding around the block,,,, bareback!

Katie was riding as I was working Morgan and pleaded with me to take them on a walk... so I popped up on him bareback and took the kids for a leisurely stroll around our 3/4 of a mile block, and Capt Morgan was calm as could be taking in all the sites, the dogs barking... kids screaming and traffic driving by. Didn't flinch at the lawn mower coming down a hill towards him or birds flying up under his nose.
Crazy OTTB...ROFL.... Morgan is my man!

Arrrrr's First Equitation Show 6/17/2012

Morgan and Katie went to their first equitation show. Part of the Triangle Show series here in the Md/De/Pa area. Katie and Morgan came away with every color except blue. The WONDERFUL part is that Morgan didn't refuse any jumps, never put a foot wrong, and stood around like he had been at shows all his life.
Katie and Morgan had a good time, although Katie said repeatedly she was NOT a hunter princess and was only there to keep her form for tet championships in July.

Morgan was adorable, had a fan club by the end of the day, and decided he liked gatorade. All in all, they rode wonderful, had a great day and had smiles all day long!

Dressage show

I broke my maiden today in the equitation world. Katie and I went to a dressage show where we took first in Intro Test C. We had a score of 66.3
I didn't do too well in training 1... we had a score off 55.8 But we finished the test, and I was relaxed and responsive. I need to work on not being so hollow in the neck, and stretching out more. Over all mama and Katie were happy, and I had lots of hugs and scritches.
Today was a great day!

Coming home!

Morgan will be coming home today from visiting Katie's trainer's farm Greenfields. Priscilla Godsoe was putting some ride time and training on him for us while we were on vacation. SO... while we were away...Morgan had a nice write up...

What's up for Katie and Morgan? Well...Katie wants to do a dressage rally for pony club with him. So Mom is making them a grass dressage ring in a small little used field. Small dressage ring regulation size. NOthing fancy.... pvc pipe and rope on grass.

They have a dressage show on March 24, 2012 at Fairwinds Stables...

www.fairwindsstables.com

Carded Judge Johanna Gwinn will be judging their two classes. This will be good prep for the dressage rally and Katie is looking forward to it.

After that...around racing they will be doing the triangle series for equitation to keep her form looking nice for jumpers. She wants to take him hunting as well... so we'll work that into the equation somewhere before the season ends~!

Stay tuned for pictures!

Another great lesson

Another great day with Ms. Marilyn. Katie is coming along great with her hands and stirrupless work. Mom took lots of pictures, and made sure that I got lots of pats. My nose was a touch sore, after all, I was beautified a week ago! I'm done with antibiotics and off the bute for pain and itchyness.
Katie rode me bareback today and popped me over a few small jumps. And we practiced my backing up. I was perfect as I cantered around the ring and stretched my legs some. I'm looking forward to maybe getting some snow!

It's done!

all done and pretty!

Today Morgan went to see Doc Jane (Jane Fassinger) in Rising Sun Maryland and we sedated him and stitched his nose back together. She ended up nerve blocking before she trimmed the edges which had a lot of scar tissue. Then she stitched him back up and he's even more handsome now! Morgan was a champ and a gentleman. He was a good boy and a trooper now has to spend a few days in a stall. He's on antibiotics and bute for pain management. And in two weeks they come out!
While we did like his rakish appearance...Katie wanted him pretty for equitation shows and Doc Jane was kind to do it.
Now cost.... I love my vet is all I will say. Total cost with antibiotics and alum spray was $168. They were half the cost basically!

Jumping 101

Mom took me to get shoes! I got front shoes. Then Katie decided to ride me and we did some jumping. Her goal for me is to take me to equitation shows. But I need to learn to jump a little better so we spent some time today working on that. I love my family!

Stacy's words now!~ Morgan had front shoes put on for the grand cost of $40. Love our farrier. He trailered well as always and was a bit nervous as Christ shoed Koda. But when it was his turn he was a gentleman and stood there. Coming home, Katie did a few days of ring work, and then we jumped him today. Katie was concerned because she needs to be able to jump him for equitation. No worries i think! I think we'll take him to a few indoors to expose him to different jumps. Katie has been riding him at lessons with Marilyn Mitchell who likes our boy. They're coming along together nicely, and Katie is a busy young lady riding two to three a day now. As well as maintaining honor roll at school. Katie has been riding Morgan in a d ring french link snaffle which he seems to like a lot. She's been working on his transitions and asking him to back.

New and improved... sort of!

There's been a lot the past few months on our boys end. Stacy was hit by a vehicle July 1, 2011 and Morgan had a few months off. Katie decided to pick the ride up and started him with Ms. Marilyn who really really likes him as an equitation horse. So Katie has decided to do equitation here and there to stay in form and shape. (Good choice), and also dressage with him in pony club. (Another good choice).
Morgan has been learning to back nicely and collect and extend himself. He's slowly coming along and is soooo smooth and fluid. Katie said he's like sitting on a large sofa. You can find them from time to time doing the Triangle Series. When her race and jumper and pony club schedules allow her to.
Morgan is also finally getting his plastic surgery done on his nose to fix the large tear on the side. While we think it fits with his pirate name image, Katie wants it done to make him look better showing. We understand and Doc Jane will be doing the honors in the next week or so. We're also looking to see if he can visit Miss Priscilla while Katie is in Florida for 11 days to get some tune up work done to help smooth out his transitions.
Such a busy year ahead for our boy!
